Harmon's &
Barton's 2007 Game Summaries
7/11 Harmon's "COMEBACK KIDS"
11 - Pettis Plumbing 9
Harmons & Bartons closes out a great season
(13 - 4) with a 11-9, 8-inning victory over Pettis Plumbing,
to capture the Westbrook City Championship. Pettis battled,
but finally succumbed to a determined HB team that swept Pettis
3 games in the regular season and capped it off with a 2 game
sweep in the City Championship. HB ended its season in typical
style..the come back kids scored 2 in the 7th to tie the game
while Mike Mowatt came in to relief pitch, stopping Pettis
and flush any hopes by the surging Plumbers down the drain!
This game had all the drama you could hope for in a championship
final. HB opened the game by scoring a quick, first inning
run as they have done consistently all year, with a Mowatt
single, stolen base, and Keegan Goan delivering a sharp single
~ HB 1 Pettis 0. Pettis wasted no time answering the bell,
with a run of their own, in the bottom of the first ~ HB 1
Pettis 1. From here, HB looked to be in "coast mode",
with HB adding 4 more in the 2nd and another 1 in the 3rd,
to build what seemed to be an insurmountable lead of 6-1.
Trever Clouatre got it started in the 2nd with a BB, then
4 straight singles by the HB big bats of Mowatt - Nealey -
Goan & Fagen ~ HB 6 Pettis 1. Ace Chad Egeland appeared
ready to wrap this one up. After coasting through 3, HB came
in with Ace # 2 Keegan Goan looking to close it out, but a
few defensive lapses and a key hit got Pettis back into the
game ~ HB 6 Pettis 7. HB scratched back to get a run and tie
it in the 6th 7 -7, but Pettis would have no part of it, scoring
2 of their own in the bottom of the 6th. This game appeared
headed for the "IF" game ~ HB 7 Pettis 9 Heading
into the top of the 7th and down by 2, HB had been in this
position numerous times during the year, thus called the self
proclaimed "Comeback Kids" Mike Mowatt lead off
the 7th with an HBP (our team batting champ & possibly
the league's) did what he has done all season and delivered
a gap shot, two bagger, scoring Mowatt and putting himself
in scoring position to tie the game. After Keegan Goan grounded
out, moving Nealey to 3rd, Pat Fagen delivered a long fly
ball easily scoring Shane Nealey, with the tying run. For
the season long fans of HB, everyone in the house had to now
sense an HB victory. This was HB's typical "come from
behind" method. With Mike Mowatt waiting patiently to
take the mound, Pettis is shut down at the end of the 7th
~ HB 9 Pettis 9 . Due to darkness, the suspended game carried
to Wednesday, with HB coming to bat in the top of the 8th.
HB, with little to no true weaknesses in the batting order,
quickly ended any doubt to the outcome of this game. After
1 quick out, Darryl Quinlan (DQ) quickly spanked a sharp single
to left and with 2 outs, the drama began to unfold. Up to
the plate steps Trevor Clouarte, after getting a quick strike
on him, Trever turns on a fastball and launches a long fly
ball, to the fence for an easy, stand-up double and scoring
DQ from first, with what proved to be the eventual game-winning
run. Shane Nealey added a little insurance with a sharp single
to left, scoring Clouatre and this one was all, but "in
the books". In comes Mike Mowatt to wrap it up, in the
bottom of the 8th, and put the exclamation point on it with
a final out strike out. HB = CITY CHAMPS.
Congrats to the Harmons & Bartons players for a well-deserved,
City Championship. HB led in the standings from day one and
never looked back. Contributions came from everyone on the
team. This great group of kids got a well-deserved championship.
The coaching staff wants to thank the parents for their support
and the kids for all the laughs they gave us throughout the
seasons. A special thanks also goes out to Harmons & Bartons
for their sponsorship.
7/8 HB v Pettis 9-7 (HB)
HB takes game one of the city championship 9 - 7. After 5
plus solid innings of pitching from Pat Fagen and some timely
hits and agressive base running, HB opens up a 9 - 1 lead
and hangs on for the win. HB took advantage of some base running
opportunities early that proved to be the difference. Pat
Fagen delivered the big hit in the bottom of the first to
get us going and before the inning was over, HB had gone on
top 4 -1. In the 3rd, Darrell Quinlan slapped a key hit knocking
in 2 and later scored on a single by Chad Egeland with some
serious hustle around 3rd base to score standing. Darrells
hit and base running sparked a big inning in the 3rd as HB
went on to score 5 runs opening up HB's lead to a 9 -1 margin.
That inning proved the difference as Keegan Goan came in to
relieve Pat Fagen in the 6th to record the save.Pettis didnt
go down quitely as they continued to threaten but Ryan Lebel
tracked down a long fly to left with a base runner on 3rd
to close out the game .HB will try to close it out and become
city champs Monday night, with both aces Chad Egeland &
Keegan Goan available for the call.
7/6 HB v PW 3-2 (HB)
WOWWWWWWWW What a game! HB wins a well played , well pitched
game by the score of 3 -2 behind year long aces Keegan Goan
and Chad Egeland. Contributions everywhere provided HB the
win. With HB down 1 -0 early, Jake Lamanni provided a big hit
giving HB a run and sparking the rally. Keegan, Pat Fagen
& Dillion Nixon all provided big hits as well. Keegan
& Chad continued to pitch like the all stars they are
and the supporting cast made play after play in the field
to seal the win.HB now play the best of 3 with Pettis for
the city championship!. HB coaching staff wants to congratulate
all the players that made the all stars, you were deserving,
and those that didn't, your contributions to HB this year
have been exceptional!
Thurs. 6/28 D&R 5 HB 2
D&R broke out of a 2 game losing streak with an impressive
5-2 win over 1st place Harmon's Barton's. Jake Gardiner started
for D&R and gutted out 3 tough innings only allowing no
hits and no earned runs. His brother, Zack Gardiner, pitched
the final 4 innings shutting out HB and picking up 6 strikeouts
along the way. Zack also led the way offensively with a double
and triple, scoring 2 runs. Josh Wood had a clutch RBI single
and Zackery Johnson followed with an RBI in D&R's 3 run
6th inning.
Saturday 6/23 Harmon's played Pettis
twice (cancelling out their 6/26 game)
Harmon's won both 15-6, then 5-4. A new spreadsheet
is attached to replace the current. Also, a new win/loss is
attached.
Mon. 6/18 D&R 6 Harmon's Barton's
1
D&R defeated HB in a hard fought game that was closer
than the final score indicated. The game was tied at 1 after
4 innings, but D&R was able to score 2 runs in the 5th
inning and 3 more in the 7th inning. Offensively, Jake Gardiner
had 2 hits and Zach Johnson had an rbi single in the 7th.
Kevin L'Heureux also contributed with a line drive single
in his only at bat. Jake Gardiner started the game on the
mound and pitched 3 solid innings. Tommy Lemay and Zack Gardiner
pitched well in relief.
6/16 HB v PW 4-3 (HB) @ Warren
Harmons & Bartons continues to "get
er done". Another amazing come from behind victory to
over take PW. After being kept at bay for 5 innings and trailing
3 -1 going into the bottom of the 6th, HB took advantage of
a couple of missed ques to score 4 runs and hang on for the
win. Chad Egeland pitched 3 strong innings throwing just 38
pitches. Keegan Goan came in to finish it off. HB improves
to 7 -1 with contributions coming up and down the line up
! This is a determined group that continues to get stronger
as a game progresses....
6/15 HB v Sappi 6-3 (HB) @ Warren
HB gets it done again! Another exciting HB finish. Down 3
-1 against a very good pitcher , HB found a way to scrap back
and score 5 runs in the 7th for a 6 -3 win. Solid Pitching
from Keegan Goan and Pat Fagen kept HB in the game so they
could stage a late rally and win. A Mike Mowatt, bases loaded,
2 out single proved to be the game winner for HB.
6/11 HB v GSG 19-0 (HB) @ Warren
Harmons & Bartons showed their pitching depth against
GSG. The game appeared to have the makings of a pitchers duel
as 14 yr old Michael Boothby matched GSG pitch for pitch the
first 2 innings to keep it a scoreless game. The HB big bats
started to wake in the 3rd, as Pat Fagen unleashed his fury
with a double, driving in the first 2 runs of the game. Later
in the same frame, Dillon Nixon put an exclamation point on
the inning, with a 3 run blast, easily clearing the high fence
at Warren field . When the dust had settled in the 3rd, H
& B had put up 7 runs and went on to cruise for a 19 -
0 win. H & B brought in 13 yr old Joe Quinlan in the 4th
to pitch 2 scoreless innings more, followed up with 13 yr
old Jake Limanni for 2 perfect innings to close it out. This
game brought us many highlights that included, Shayne Nealey
4 -4, Dillon Nixon's 3 run home run, and Ryan LeBel with 8
put outs and chipping in with a hit.
6/10 HB vs Pheonix 6-10 (PW) @ Warren
HB runs into a solid PW team that had primed itself for revenge
of an early season loss to HB. After both teams exchanged
leads, PW had the final say in this one. Pat Fagen pitched
the first 3 innings in a see saw game, HB looked to be positioned
for the win, until PW came through with a couple of unearned
runs in the 6th, causing HB to lose its mental toughness it
had displayed in all their games up to this point. The final
score showed PW the victor 10 - 6. Although a tough loss,
the HB boys & coaches learned from this loss and that
will be invaluable as the season progresses. "TEAM"
- - Together Everyone Accomplishes More
6/9 HB vs Pettis 8-6 (HB) @ Warren
HB gets tested but shows its medley. After surrendering a
quick 5 runs in the first 2 innings and down 5 - 0, HB battled
back frame by frame, before overcoming a scrappy Pettis Plumbing
team. Once again strong pitching held true as some early woes
were covered by the solid pitching performances of Chad Egeland
and Keegan Goan to hold Pettis at bay over the final 5 frames
to allow us to come from behind for the 8-6 win!
6/8 HB v DR 9-4 (HB) @ Warren
HB came out of the gate quickly in this one. A Mike Mowatt
walk, a stolen base, and then Keegan Goan busted out a long
2 bagger for a 1 - 0 lead. In the 2nd, after Pat Fagen lined
a base hit to left and Joe Quinlan drew a walk up to the plate,
in came Keegan Goan, fresh off a first inning double, jumped
on a pitch in the zone for a towering blast of the left field
score board making it a 4 - 0 game and really sparking the
power of the flower! HB went on to add another in the inning
on a Chad Egeland single and this game was all but in the
books. After building an insurmountable 9 -0 lead, HB went
on to cruise to a 9 -4 victory . Solid Pitching once again
was a key with Goan, Egeland & Fagen holding the Defending
city champs at bay before they broke out with 4 in the final
2 frames.
June 2nd ~ Harmon's v Sappi (2-1 Harmon's)
@ WHS
H & B pulled out another come from behind win with a 2
run 6th inning . This game was a low scoring, tense game that
saw very few hits ,showing the parity in the league . Using
a little inginuity, H & B scrapped a couple runs home
when they needed to in the bottom of the 6th. H & B showed
some serious depth on the hill using Adam Begos - Pat Fagan
and Keegan Goan in the final frame to close it out and earn
the save, Pat Fagan picked up the Win. H & B was without
the pitching services of their ace Chad Egland and didnt have
their play maker & # 3 pitcher Michael Mowatt until the
5th inning but still managed to keep Sappi at bay. The only
run Sappi could push across the plate was unearned . H &
B is now at a full strength rooster with the highly anticipated
return of 2006 all star Darryl Quinlan (out with broken thumb).
DQ brings another dimmention to this already solid line.
May 28th ~ PW v Harmon's (3-6 Harmon's) @ Warren
A great start to the Babe Ruth baseball season last night
at Warren . Two very evenly matched teams played to the wire
and then some with H & B pulling out a 6 -3, 8-inning,
come from behind victory over PW . Harmons & Bartons showed
a little more than Flower Power with fantastic pitching that
included Goan - Begos - Boothby - Egeland and Mowatt to close
it out! H & B used some crafty base running from Trever
Clouatre & Mike Mowatt and timely hitting from Dillon
Nixon & Joe Quinlan to bring H & B to victory. PW
had this one, until a 2 out walk opened the door. Mike Mowatt
stole 2nd & 3rd, before cruising home with the winning
run, on a throw that got by the 3rd baseman and sailed into
left field .
