Sappi Fine
Paper 2007 Game Summaries
Sunday, 6/24 D&R 11 Sappi 5
Trevor Bates went 3 for 3, had 4 RBIs and scored 4 runs in
D&R's convincing 11-5 win. D&R again fought back from
an early 4 run deficit. Todd Hood stepped up and pitched a
crucial inning for the D&R Blue. Zack Gardiner came in
in the 5th inning and pitched 3 scoreless innings with 5 stikeouts.
6/20 Sappi v GS&G (20-18) Sappi
Gorham Sand & Gravel is a very good team-and
it showed in the 1st inning with 11 runs on 9 hits ( 3 doubles-2
singles and a triple); then they added two in the 3rd; 3 in
the 6th; and 2 more in the 7th. But, Sappi came back to win
20-18. Timely hitting in the 5th produced 8 runs on 4 hits,
then added 5 runs in the 6th on 5 hits. GS&G had 5 errors
in those innings to help add to the run tally. K. Bourassa
4 was for 5; D. Hawkes was 3 for 4; A. Beckwith was 3 for
5; S. Heath was 2 for 3; M. Veitz 2 was also for 3; D. Payne
was 3 for 3, with 2 walks; and B. Rodgers started the run
scoring spree in the 5th with his 1st hit. Congrats!
6/19 Sappi v PW 10-8 (Sappi) @ Warren
A great game between two good teams. Phoenix
Welding scored 6 runs in the 1st inning and then added two
more in the 2nd, but was held scoreless the rest of the game.
Sappi had a big inning in the 5th when 6 runs came across
the plate (along with the 4 runs scored earlier) with hits
from K. Bourassa, A. Beckwith, M. Veitz, and A. Benson.
6/15 HB v Sappi 6-3 (HB) @ Warren
HB gets it done again! Another exciting HB finish. Down 3
-1 against a very good pitcher , HB found a way to scrap back
and score 5 runs in the 7th for a 6 -3 win. Solid Pitching
from Keegan Goan and Pat Fagen kept HB in the game so they
could stage a late rally and win. A Mike Mowatt, bases loaded,
2 out single proved to be the game winner for HB.
June 2nd ~ Harmon's v Sappi (2-1 Harmon's)
@ WHS
H & B pulled out another come from behind
win with a 2 run 6th inning . This game was a low scoring,
tense game that saw very few hits ,showing the parity in the
league . Using a little inginuity, H & B scrapped a couple
runs home when they needed to in the bottom of the 6th. H
& B showed some serious depth on the hill using Adam Begos
- Pat Fagan and Keegan Goan in the final frame to close it
out and earn the save, Pat Fagan picked up the Win. H &
B was without the pitching services of their ace Chad Egland
and didnt have their play maker & # 3 pitcher Michael
Mowatt until the 5th inning but still managed to keep Sappi
at bay. The only run Sappi could push across the plate was
unearned . H & B is now at a full strength rooster with
the highly anticipated return of 2006 all star Darryl Quinlan
(out with broken thumb). DQ brings another dimmention to this
already solid line.
5/28 Sappi v Pettis (6-10 Pettis) @
WHS
Starter Joe Dvilinsky pitched three solid innings
as Pettis used extraordinary defense and timely hitting to
defeat Sappi 10-6. Repeat hitters for Pettis were Zach Collett
with 4 and Matt Weimerand Brent Martin with 2 each. Scott
Heath and Kyle Bourassa had 3 hits for Sappi.
