2008 Playoff Game Summaries

HARMONS & BARTONS SCRAPS OUT ANOTHER BABE RUTH CITY CHAMPIONSHIP !

HB pnce again finds some magic to pull off an exciting come from behind 3
-2 victory to retain the city championship title & trophy.
Rain halted game two of the city championship Wednesday with Harmon's and Barton's trailing 2 -1 to Sappi in the 3rd inning and pushing it to Thursday.

HB had struck quickly with a lone run in the first , Jake Limanni reached on a walk and eventually came home on a Sean Murphy single for a 1 - 0 lead. With Mike Mowatt and Mike Boothby locked in a pitching duel, runs were at a premium. Sappi struck back in the top half of the 3rd with 2 runs with LaCourse and Lemay each scoring on hits by Alex Benson and Mike Boothby to put Sappi back on top 2-1. As the sky darkened , Harmon's & Barton's first 2 batters went down quickly in the bottom of the 3rd before Mitchell Chipman slapped a double and the potential tying run was in scoring position. Heavy rain came in quickly and caused postponement with the game resuming on Thursday where it left off.

When play resumed on Thursday, Chipman was left stranded at 2nd and Sappi retained the lead until the 6th when things started getting interesting.
Harmon's got a lead off double from Matt Cottrell. Up came 13 year old spark plug Kevin Griscoviak who worked the count his way and then dropped a perfect bunt for an infield single and runners were now at the corners with no outs. After moving Griscoviak to second Cale Bolig came up and executed a perfect squeeze to bring home Cottrell with the tying run and when the inning ended the score was knotted at 2 - 2.

With the fans and players on the edge of their seats going into the final frame , Sappi made a run in the top of the seventh when Duncanson led off with a walk, after HB retired the next batter, Scott Heath quickly scorched a hard single to right leaving Sappi with runners on first and second and only one out. Cottrell went on to get the next to batters out on long fly balls to retire the side and the score still at 2 -2 . Harmon's and Barton's started the bottom of the seventh inning harmlessly when the first two batters were retired but Mike Mowatt had an infield single and advanced on the throw leaving the potential run in scoring position. Sappi walked Sean Murphy intentionally bringing up Matt Cotrell. Still with two outs, Cottrell squared to show the bunt before pulling it back with the runners were stealing , Mike Mowatt went sliding into 3rd before the throw as the ball skipped away, Mowatt raced home beating the throw and scoring the winning run.Matt Cottrell , who came in for Mike Mowatt in the top of the 4th inning pitched the final 4 innings to get the win in relief. FINAL
SCORE Harmons & Bartons 3 - Sappi 2

After a 2 - 8 start to the season - Harmon's and Barton's ended the season by winning the final 3 regular season games and 4 straight playoff games to win the championship. The players should be proud of their accomplishments!
The coaches would like to thank the players for a great season which will be followed up with the traditional CHAMPIONSHIP Pool Party!
Also thank you to Harmon's & Barton's Florist for your support of Westbrook Babe Ruth team sponsorship.

7/2 Harmons vrs Phoenix HB wins 6-3

Harmons & Bartons - Continues to make it interesting! HB seems to be putting the pieces together as the boys pull of another victory 6 -3 , this time in the first round of the city playoffs! 4 straight wins as they hit their stride!!! With a pitchers duel brewing between Mike Mowatt and Matt Weimer through 5 , mother nature halted play for 20 minutes due to lightning and a brief shower. When the sky cleared, HB found 4 runs at the end of the rainbow to pull off a stunning come from behind victory. Michael Mowatt pitch 6 flawless innings before being lifted in the 7th for the big unit - Sean Murphy who proceeded to shut them down to end it. Mowatt and Chipman provided the offensive spark with Sean Murphy chipping in as well during the big 6th inning,.In the top half of the inning Sam Murphy made a huge play on a ball hit down the first base line that had two bagger written all over it to stop the threat. Once the first inning jitters were cleared (3 -2 after 1 inning) both sides showed there talent with defensive plays being made everywhere to squelch any thoughts of a big scoring game, but in the end HB prevailed.

HB will face first place Pettis Plumbing Wednesday at WHS, the winner will move on to the city championship next week
